More Than Just a Waiting Room: Why We Created a Community Art Wall

When people think about therapy, they often think about the work that happens in the therapy room. But what many people don’t realize is that healing starts the moment someone walks through the door.
At our office, we began asking ourselves an important question: What do people feel when they sit in our waiting room?
Nervous? Anxious? Unsure? Exhausted? Maybe even scared?
Many of the people who come through our doors are carrying heavy stories... grief, trauma, anxiety, relationship struggles, life transitions, and stress. We realized that the environment people sit in before session matters more than we sometimes think. Space can feel cold and clinical, or it can feel human, welcoming, and connected.
That’s why we decided to create a Community Art Wall.
This wall isn’t just about decoration. It’s about creating a space that feels alive, meaningful, and connected to the community around us. We want the people who walk into our office to see reminders of resilience, culture, identity, hope, strength, and healing that is sometimes expressed in ways that words cannot capture.
We also believe that art tells stories, and stories help people feel less alone.
By featuring local artists, we hope to support our community while also creating a space that feels more welcoming and inspiring for the people we serve. Each piece of art on our wall comes from someone in our community, and every piece has a story behind it.
If you are a local artist and feel that your artwork reflects themes such as healing, hope, resilience, culture, identity, rest, strength, or growth, we would be honored to feature your work in our office.
Because this space isn’t just ours. It belongs to the community we serve.
