About Angie
Helping people move from survival mode to a more connected and meaningful life.
Hi, I’m Angie Gomez, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and co-owner of Thrive in Vida Counseling. I'm a bilingual (English/Spanish) therapist specializing in complex trauma and dissociation.
Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or like different parts of them are holding different emotions, memories, or experiences. You might feel like you’re “too much” one moment and completely shut down the next. You might understand your patterns logically, but still feel stuck in them.
You might relate to this if…
-
You feel disconnected from yourself, your body, or your surroundings
-
Different “parts” of you seem to react in different ways
-
You experience intense emotions or feel completely shut down
-
You’ve gone through long-term or repeated trauma
-
You’re highly self-aware but still feel stuck
-
You’re tired of trying to hold everything together on your own
If that sounds familiar, you’re not broken. Your mind and body adapted to survive.
I use EMDR, somatic, and parts-informed approaches to help you build stability, understand what’s happening inside, and safely process what you’ve been through. Therapy with me isn’t about forcing change or pushing too fast. It’s about creating enough safety so that healing can actually happen.
I work with children, teens, and adults, and tailor therapy to meet you where you are. Whether you're just beginning to explore your experiences or have been in therapy before, we move at a pace that feels manageable and grounded.
I offer therapy in both English and Spanish, so you can express yourself in the language that feels most natural to you.
If you’ve been trying to figure this out on your own, you don’t have to anymore.
Areas I Commonly Help With
Clients often seek therapy for concerns such as:
-
Trauma and difficult past experiences
-
Anxiety and chronic stress
-
Depression or low mood
-
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
-
Relationship and family challenges
-
Self-esteem and self-criticism
-
Life transitions and identity shifts
My Approach
My work integrates trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches that support both the mind and the nervous system. These may include:
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
-
Somatic and nervous system–based approaches
-
Parts-informed and relational trauma work
-
Mindfulness and grounding techniques
These approaches help the brain and body process difficult experiences so that they no longer carry the same emotional weight.
My Philosophy
Many of the patterns people struggle with today developed as ways to survive difficult circumstances.
Therapy is not about “fixing” what’s broken. It’s about understanding those survival strategies with compassion and helping the system learn that it no longer has to stay in survival mode.
Healing often begins when we become curious about our experiences instead of fighting against them.
Specialty: Trauma and Dissociation
A significant part of my work focuses on complex trauma and dissociation.
Trauma doesn’t only live in memories. It can show up in the body, in emotional reactions that feel confusing or overwhelming, or in the sense that different parts of us are trying to cope in different ways.
At times, it may feel confusing or even unsettling to notice different parts of yourself responding in different ways. You might feel in control one moment and overwhelmed or shut down the next. You may understand what’s happening logically, but still feel like something inside you doesn’t fully make sense. These experiences can feel isolating, but they are more common than you think, especially in response to trauma.
In therapy, we approach these experiences with patience and curiosity rather than judgment. Understanding the inner world, how emotions, memories, and protective patterns interact, can help people move from simply surviving toward feeling more grounded and connected to themselves.
